Who we are
FUNDACIÓ MARFÀ per a la formació i el desenvolupament (the MARFA FOUNDATION for training and development) is a private, non-profit charitable foundation. Its top priority is to help economically and socially disadvantaged areas and communities develop through training, which the foundation views as the driving force behind development.

This goal is achieved by offering young people of university age, who have objectively and appropriately tested intellectual ability, and who come from socially and economically disadvantaged families, the opportunity to go to university. The foundation awards the students extensive grants to study in the most prestigious universities in their home countries and, exceptionally, at Catalan universities.

The foundation is currently providing and has plans to award grants to young people in various developing countries, in all of which there is extensive poverty and social inequality, but which have sufficiently robust and stable educational and academic structures to allow them to complete their intellectual and academic training at the level the foundation intends.

Fundación Marfà thus carries out projects that - above all - reward excellence and prioritises those who are socially and economically marginalised.

The Foundation was founded in November 2005 and is listed in the register for foundations* in the Generalitat de Catalunya under the number 2,160.
(* El Registro de Fundaciones de la Generalitat de Catalunya).

Since September 19th 2007 the Marfà Foundation has been admitted as a new member of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency's DNGO* Official List (* Development Non Governmental Organisations)
